🌸 Hi! I’m JT 👋🏻
🌱 Gardening without the BS.
💡20 yrs of tips, fails & wins. Helping beginners grow without jargon.

Frost doesn’t gently ‘nip’ your plants — i Frost doesn’t gently ‘nip’ your plants — it full-on assassinates them overnight and leaves the evidence all over your flowerbeds.

One cold snap and your garden goes from Chelsea Flower Show to Frozen in 12 hours flat.

🌡️ If the forecast even whispers 0°C, don’t risk it. Cover your tender plants with fleece, cloches, or — let’s be honest — the spare duvet you don’t actually use. Group pots together for warmth and move them near a wall if you can.

Because once frost hits, there’s no CPR for begonias.

❄️ Save this for frost season and follow for more no-BS gardening tips that keep your plants alive and your sanity intact. #thegirlwhostaresatplants #gardening #gardeningtips #garden #dog #frostymorning #dailydirt🌱
You can of course plant your bulb lasagne my way, You can of course plant your bulb lasagne my way, or follow instructions below. Let’s try this out together eh?

🌼 How to Plant a Bulb Lasagne (The Right Way):

1️⃣ Grab a deep pot — 30–35 cm minimum with drainage holes. Deep enough for three layers and your mistakes.
2️⃣ Add drainage — gravel or crock. Keeps bulbs from sitting in soggy compost (they hate that).
3️⃣ Bottom layer: tulips or daffodils — the big ones go deepest, about 3x their height.
4️⃣ Compost layer.
5️⃣ Middle layer: hyacinths or alliums — offset them from the ones below.
6️⃣ Compost again.
7️⃣ Top layer: muscari, crocus or iris reticulata — right near the surface, not buried like mine.
8️⃣ Top with compost, water once, and label it before you forget what’s in there after three mulled wines.
9️⃣ Leave outside over winter — they’ll do their thing and burst into colour come spring.

⸻

Remember: gardening isn’t about being perfect — it’s about planting, messing up, and laughing when your muscari file a missing bulb report 😂 #thegirlwhostaresatplants #gardening #gardeningtips #bulbs #bulblasagne
💸 STOP buying new plants — your salvias are b 💸 STOP buying new plants — your salvias are basically a free plant factory just waiting to be cloned.

Think buying new salvias every year is the only way? Nope. You’re sitting on a goldmine of free plants — you just need scissors and a tiny bit of cheek.

Here’s how to propagate salvias (a.k.a. commit legal plant cloning):
✂️ Snip a healthy, non-flowering stem about 10cm long.
🍃 Strip off the lower leaves (nobody likes soggy bottoms).
💧 Dip the cut end in water or rooting hormone if you’re feeling fancy.
🌿 Pop it into moist compost or vermiculite (my fav) and firm it in like you mean it.
☀️ Keep it bright but shaded — the spa day of plant care.

In a few weeks, boom: new salvias for free.
Because nothing beats that smug, “I made this myself” gardener feeling. #gardeningtips #thegirlwhostaresatplants #gardening #flowers #easygardening #salvia
Slugs are the freeloading relatives of the garden Slugs are the freeloading relatives of the garden — they turn up uninvited, eat your best food, and leave slime on the sofa.

Tip: They’ll ignore weeds and head straight for your prize lettuce. The fix? Beer traps (hmmm inconclusive) copper tape (hit and miss) or recruit frogs and hedgehogs as night-shift security (yes! Tho recruitment is tough!) Don’t waste time hoping they’ll behave — they won’t. Personally I use mulch - strulch if I’m being specific (and no I don’t get paid for this but I can hope 😆).

Every beginner does it — cram all the seedlings Every beginner does it — cram all the seedlings in because the bed looks ‘a bit empty.’ Two weeks later: it’s a sweaty plant rave where nobody can breathe, mildew’s on guest list, and your veg have started fight club.

👉 Rule of thumb: if you think you’ve spaced them too far apart, you probably got it just right.

Save yourself the drama. Give them room, and they’ll thank you with bigger harvests and fewer diseases.

Beginner tip 👉 Mulch locks in moisture, keeps r Beginner tip 👉 Mulch locks in moisture, keeps roots cool in summer, warm in winter, and makes your garden look instantly more polished (even if you’re winging it).

So before you dump half a bag on your flowerbed, remember: mulch is a blanket, not a mattress.

💬 Do you mulch your beds, or are your plants still streaking in public? #gardeningtips #thegirlwhostaresatplants #gardening #mulch #dailydirt🌱
